The K-Carafe packs have the Barista Prima Coffeehouse brand of coffee in them. I ordered some to try. I have the original free carafe that came with my K550, but I know it was only intended to let people sample the K-Carafe beverages. I wanted a thermal carafe for a long time. I ordered it at the same time. The carafe is well made. It is nearly identical in size and shape to the free plastic carafe, but it is made from steel and is a true thermal carafe. I put in 6 ounces of hot water from the brewer. The hot water function is not supported by the brewer when the carafe is installed, but I just remove the cover and install it under the head. That works well. I live in a cold climate so preheating carafes and mugs is required in order to avoid rapid cooling. I like using strong settings on normal beverages because I like a high coffee to water ratio. I drop the brew size to the lowest setting to get the strongest coffee I can get, because I don’t see a strong setting for the carafe. I haven’t had a problem with it yet, but the plastic top is not sealed like some high-end thermal carafes on full pot brewers, so I will need to consume coffee fairly soon after brew if I want my second mug to brew.

The Carafe was designed to fill the carafe with K Carafe Pods. I received a notice that the K-Mug and K-Carafe would be phased out when I bought the new K575. So… Once the K-Carafe Pods are gone, the carafe won’t be as efficient. The K-Carafe inner Pods were non-biodegradable.

I have used this many times. I had tea in it and had to warm it up in the micro. I don’t keep my coffee hot. I could have gotten the regular one. I thought it would stay hot for a while.
